Places to See & Things to Do

  • Turquoise Pools & Sulphur Canyon
Swim through stunning blue mineral-rich pools and a narrow canyon with dramatic limestone walls. The main stretch is around 500 meters of swimming and rock-hopping.

  • Hoqain Waterfall Picnic Spot
A popular spot for cooling off and enjoying a picnic under a small, scenic waterfall. Family-friendly with shaded areas and shallow pools.

  • Date-Palm Terraces & Springs
Walk through lush date palm groves and bubbling natural springs, fed year-round by mineral waters.

  • Al Hazm Castle
A nearby 18th-century fort known for its elegant architecture, thick defensive walls, and beautiful arches. Great for history and culture lovers.

Trip Advice

  • Getting There
Around 70 minutes’ drive from Muscat. A 2WD vehicle is sufficient. The site has parking, restrooms, shaded seating, and BBQ areas.

  • Best Time to Visit
Visit any time of year. Spring and summer (April to August) show off the bluest water. Winter months are cooler but still enjoyable. Weekdays are quieter, while weekends and holidays can get crowded.

  • What to Bring

    • Water shoes or shoes with good grip (rocks can be slippery)

    • Life jackets if you're not a strong swimmer

    • Waterproof phone case

    • Sunscreen, hat, water, snacks, and a change of clothes

  • Safety & Etiquette

    • Be cautious on slippery rocks and near deep pools

    • Small fish may nibble at your feet; spiders may be present

    • Supervise children closely

    • Wear modest swimwear out of respect for local customs

    • Leave no litter behind

  • Guided Half-Day Tours
Available from Muscat, usually include transportation, a guide, swimming and hiking, and light refreshments. Ideal if you prefer a hassle-free trip.

  1. 7:00 AM – Depart from Muscat

  2. 8:30 AM – Arrive at Wadi Hoqain, begin hike and swim
